Between the years of 1875 and 1898, Southampton-born Captain George White and ex-slave Pyrrhus Concer made twelve voyages to the far east in search of whales. Based on ships’ logs and diaries, a fascinating story emerges about the rewards and perils of voyages at sea, and about an unlikely friendship forged between two men.
